Position Details

The underhook takedown uses an underhook to control and attack your opponent. The underhook provides excellent inside position for various finishes.

Key Principles

  • Secure a deep underhook, reaching up to their shoulder
  • Pull them into you with the underhook
  • Step to their side to create an angle
  • Finish with a trip or lift

Concepts

  • Underhook Depth: Deeper underhook means more control
  • Hip Position: Your hip should be close to theirs
  • Angle Off: Step to their underhook side to attack
  • Various Finishes: Inside trip, outside trip, and lift all work
